This handmade printed album contains photographs of my client’s father’s garden. Their father, who recently passed away, was a keen gardener and my client had built up a collection of photographs of the garden in every season. I laid out these photographs in sequence through Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. I created a subtle leaf motif for the backgroud of the album pages which changed colour as the seasons progressed.
The binding is a Secret Belgain binding sewn with yellow linen thread. It contrasts beautifully with the green bookcloth. The coverpaper has a delicate yellow pattern which complements the photographs inside. The album paper is a heavyweight textured watercolour paper which adds depth to the wonderful photographs.
The first page of the album contains a quote by Alfred Austin: ‘The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just the body, but the soul’.
