Spring 2017 workshops

I will be giving bookbinding workshops across Ireland in 2017 – in Springtime I will be in Galway, Mayo and Dublin. These workshops are suitable for all levels – beginners to advanced. Participants will also gain knowledge of how to use book binding tools and the principals of bookbinding including grain direction, gluing and folding tips.

1. Bookbinding 101

In this one-day workshop, participants will create a variety of folded books – no stitching required! Starting with a simple concertina book, we will build up a collection of books: alternative accordion books, hot dog books, flag books and more.

Date: 28th January, 2017
Venue: Loughrea School of Art, Galway

2. A Durable Sketchbook

This hardback sketchbook is perfect for carrying around when working en plein air, and is a handy size for daily use. The sketchbook will be roughly A5 size and has a pocket at the back.

Participants will create their own unique paste paper for the cover. First used roughly 450 years ago, the technique of using pigmented starch paste to create designs on paper remains one of the simplest and most versatile paper decorative methods.

Date: 25th & 26th February, 2017
Venue: Graphic Studio Dublin

3. Mother’s Day Notebook – Children’s workshop

Give something back to your mum by making her a special notebook or bring her along to take part in this workshop. Participants will create their own unique accordion book filled with special memories, drawings and promises for their mothers.

Date: 26th March, 2017
Venue: The Museum of Country Life
