Sculptural books workshop

Here are some photos from a bookbinding workshop I facilitated in the Graphic Studio Dublin. We made several types of interactive and sculptural books: accordion flexagon books, star books and crown books. Hedi Kyle, an innovative book artist, invented many of these bindings which focus on using folds, rather than sewing or glue, in order to create a book.

We also made lots of paste paper. This is an extremely durable form of decorative paper that is used for book covers and endsheets. This method of paper design was invented in the late 16th century and is recognisable for its strong patterns and use of bright colours. It is a messy and fun way of making unique papers.
