Futuremakers Award
I was delighted to receive Future Makers Award from the Design and Craft Council of Ireland in July 2019. Future Makers programme recognises and rewards vision, innovation and excellence in both making and the creative process, offering a range of awards and supports to makers and students in Ireland. It is one of the largest prize-funded award programmes in Europe.
I was awarded a €1000 grant to invest in studio equipment. One thing I will be buying is a plough and press. This is used to trim the edge of a book, creating a really even, smooth finish. This plough and press can be in the foreground of Der Buchbinder woodcut which is from a book of trades from 1568. A master bookbinder is using it to plough the edges of a book with the press supported in his lap. I will be using the exact same equipment in the same way!
Here is an article in the Connaght Telegraph telling more about the award.
