Mentoring for artist's books
I am available for mentoring and one-to-one development of artist’s books. I have been both a mentor and a mentee and really value receiving specific critical feedback and advice when creating new work. I enjoy working collaboratively with artists, writers and other creatives, guiding them through the process of making a book.
For me, mentoring is a collaborative partnership where I offer experience, knowledge and an outside eye in a respectful and encouraging manner. I work in a process based way which provides a safe framework for you to experiment and develop work.
Whether your book is a one-off handmade artist book or a commercially produced edition of books, I can offer my expertise to demystify the process of book production. I am passionate about self-publishing, in particular experimental artists’ books.
I can advise on bookbinding techniques, structures and materials; assist with book design, editing and layout; and even manage the full book production if desired.
In the past, I have mentored recipients of the Arts Council of Ireland's Agility Award, Bursary Award and the Professional Development Award; as well as to recipients of various local arts office grants.
We will tailor the mentorship framework according to your needs. I generally recommend a mixture of online mentoring sessions and day-long skill-based workshops which give space and time to develop your project and a working relationship together.
If you would like to apply for mentoring, get in touch with me and we can start the conversation!
